How might we engage households to adopt clean energy?

Evolving the Solstice Ecosystem
Solstice Power Technlogies
Solstice, was founded on the central belief that every American household should have access to affordable renewable energy. With recent changes to the IRA (Inflation Reduction Act ) and ITC, these government programs created more opportunities to fund these solar projects and serve low-to-middle income communities in the process.

I was brought in to lead design on their 3 key product experiences : a consumer enrollment flow, internal teams management platform, and a solar developer portal.

User Research
For the consumer enrollment flow, my product manager and I kicked off the project by running a design sprint with our key internal stakeholders who most consistently interfaced with the end customer. We found a key pain point was community solar is hard to understand and the program requirements varied between states and even projects. As a result, the team was receiving many incoming calls vs. direct enrollments.

Based on the results of the sprint, I defined a new design system and user flow to work with the many channels delivering leads to our enrollment flow.

To extend and scale usage, I paired with my engineering lead to create a Storybook library so our development team could easily integrate the new component library.
Empower users every step of the way
Our key goal was to increase user literacy of those interested and simplify a complex enrollment process, making users feel empowered in their choice to switch to a clean energy alternative.

We also integrated a new CMS to allow for dynamic content management so our internal teams could easily customize the FAQs each step of the enrollment flow.

For the solar developer portal, the team was under a lot of pressure to reinvent the portal to meet the needs of one of the team's top clients. Based on user interviews with the client, we determined a scope of three key dashboards: acquisition, revenue, and churn.

Post-launch, the newly minted portal secured the continued business with our key partner and additionally won $9 million in new business just within 3 months!

Data Integrity and Project Level Metrics
Not only do solar developers manage acquisition and revenue metrics, but they also need to measure compliance under the IRA guidelines.

To support, I designed a suite of real-time widgets to deliver a high-level view to our solar developers so they could quickly check on the health of their projects. On top of that, I developed a filtering system to allow them to slice and dice and drill-down on specific cohorts of data.
